edit:
8/13 - Revamped the splash page, split the previous Misc section into 2 sections (MISC on this blog, and MEDIA in the PORTFOLIO section)
I originally wanted my whole site to be self-contained in one flash menu, but it was rather cumbersome to update. this blog essentially replaces the update section, the other sections have also been moved/removed and are listed here on the blog (below categories on the right, called subsection). I realize it’s way too many sections but it is a lot like myself - my thoughts are kind of fractured and segmented.
This project started in mid-march, of which i spent the first week trying to learn how to do rollover buttons in flash…all of which i’ve completely revamped this past week (the old buttons look exactly the same, i just found an easier way to make/update them).
I’m not trained for any web design/production, so this is quite a long learning experience. I was almost hired a decade ago to be a web designer in Santa Monica (the website i designed is in the portfolio section under “media” listed as “old portfolio”). I made a mistake of not testing and coding it well enough to be cross-platform/cross-browser so it didnt even look the same way that i planned. The design firm didn’t know the difference though. Lesson learned. I’m not gonna make that mistake again.
So does my site work on all browsers and OS? Well, not quite. I was testing it this afternoon and the blog header wasnt showing up in Navigator on a Mac. On certain browsers, the links in the subsection on the right of this blog shows up with a box around the link (it’s a CSS problem). And the biggest thing that bothers me (maybe not the other people viewing the site) is how the site looks on lower resolution screens. Though I designed it to fit a 1024×768 screen and browser, it just looks so much better from 1280×960 on up (my screen size is set to 1680×1050).
Other problems: the slideshow gallery doesnt have any play controls (i would need an xml script to go with an actionscript to do it). and the sound control panel doesnt look as obvious as i would like-it’s on the lower left corner of the portfolio section.
