finally got the official R1 dvd release. the Region 0 dvd that i had keeps freezing up (similar to the copy i rented at the old laserdisc place). this is the only “sports” movie in my dvd library (Shaolin Soccer is more comedy so i’m excluding it)
love the soundtrack, especially this song Supercar: Yumegiwa Last Boy:
originally bought one of these for my sister (since she used to watch Alice In Wonderland a lot as a kid) and decided to get one myself. these were made by Span of Sunset (though i managed to get them cheaper at some other store) and limited to 500 pcs (per edition, this is the pirate edition) which means 2 are in my family.
they release new editions and this was the only colorway i liked.
don’t know the actual designer, but it’s very underworld / tomato like in feel. spotted at a bus stop/overpass in San Francisco (corner of Fillmore St and Geary(?) near Japantown)
havent used this camera as much these past few years. that film roll in the middle has a few shots from last christmas, the rest were from a few weeks back. it would be nice if there was a digital version of this camera but that kind of defeats the purpose and charm of the camera. there are DIY/customized digital cameras that people have modified to get similar effects (or just use photoshop)
i prefer the real thing only wish there was a digital version to save on developing costs/film
need to check the old laserdisc place (i still call it the laserdisc place since we used to rent laserdiscs there more than a decade ago) to see if they have Flash Point for rent:
this is the 3rd straight collaboration between Donnie Yen and Wilson Yip. Sha Po Lang (aka SPL) renamed Killzone here in the US, and Dragon Tiger Gate (don’t know if a US distributor will release a R1 dvd, i have the Hong Kong dvd though). Flash Point (HK) dvd is out at the end of the month, hopefully it gets a US dvd release soon after (i think Dragon Dynasty/Weinstein already signed to distribute it)
if you look hard enough on youtube, you’ll be able to find just the fight scenes to all the movies listed above.
UPDATE: amazon.com has the bluray version from taiseng availble for preorder. release date is may 27 ‘08

and a few dabs of Robert Redford when he was a young mexican:
i like to take the scenic route when leaving San Fran which usually means going thru Half Moon Bay. Flying Fish Grill is at the junction of Highway 1 and San Mateo in Half Moon Bay.
