Rian Hughes : Soho Dives, Soho Divas published by Image Comics Designer, cartoonist and comic creator extraordinaire Rian Hughes has created a series of portraits of London’s burlesque performers, including sketches from life, graphic illustrations and paintings in a variety of media and styles. . Picked this up on a whim, this is the hardcover edition wrapped in red linen with art and gold text embossed on the outside cover. Really cool effect that’s better in hand.

Been a while since I’ve picked up or viewed a Dave McKean book and I’ve only posted three of them here on the blog (view other posts). This one’s a graphic novel (can easily see this as a short film….though more NC-17) without any dialogue or words. I’ve always liked his mixture of illustration, painting, photoshop/collage, and photography. Managed to track down this illustration book by Shohei Otomo (his father, Katsuhiro Otomo is the creator/director of the classic Akira manga and anime). Amazing photorealistic illustrations using ballpoint pen as the medium.
