Doubling up on some cannibal flicks in the battle of Most Appetizing Adaptations. Do you prefer originals or remakes? Hardline anti-remake? Not aware that there is an original foreign version, or not care at all? Spoilerfic breakdown comparison on what’s the same and what has changed in both versions after the break (along with many pictures of food I’ve been gobbling up the past few months)

Criterion Collection Blu Ray Edition A quintessential cult film of the 1980s, Alex Cox’s singular sci-fi comedy stars the always captivating Harry Dean Stanton (Paris, Texas) as a weathered repo man in desolate downtown Los Angeles, and Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club) as the nihilistic middle-class punk he takes under his wing. The job becomes more than either of them bargained for when they get involved in reclaiming a mysterious—and otherworldly—Chevy Malibu with a hefty reward attached to it. […]

Spanish horror series. The first one is better known in the US as Quarantine (The dvd cover for REC says “the movie that inspired Quarantine”, but is it really inspired when it’s a direct English language remake?). Now, if you’ve seen Quarantine, then REC is virtually the same…except better in a lot of ways (pacing, visually more realistic, a more claustrophobic feel etc). REC2 is the direct sequel, happening immediately after the end of the first REC, it’s best if […]

“Les Yeux Sans Visage … your eyes without a face…” Couldn’t wait for the blu ray version to be released so I tracked down the old Criterion dvd instead. There is still a creepy overall feel to it for a film made in 1960, even if it is rather tame by today’s standards. . Included in the disc is a documentary by the same director, George Franju, titled Blood of the Beasts (Le Sang des bêtes) contrasting between a “typical […]

Picked up an old, quirky French Cannibal Hotel movie 😉 . I remember watching this on Bravo back in the 90’s…only saw it once though. Really playful use of sounds. Sadly, the only other movie that I’ve seen of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s is Alien Ressurection (I’ve seen that one a lot lol). No, I have not seen Amelie…but I might go get City of Los Children one of these days… can’t find a good trailer of it, but i do […]

Heathers. Have not seen this since 1988 (i only remember watching it twice), but decided to get the semi-fancy Anniversary locker edition of it on Blu Ray. This movie has a lot more disturbing things than I remembered *chuckles*. I can’t think of Winona Ryder without thinking of this song:
