state of listening

04/18/2014 by alaundre

Between the mid 1960s and the late 1970s, the long-playing record and the albums that graced its grooves changed popular music for ever. For the first time, musicians could escape the confines of the three-minute pop single and express themselves as never before across the expanded artistic canvas of the album. The LP allowed popular music become an art form – from the glorious artwork adorning gatefold sleeves, to the ideas and concepts that bound the songs together, to the […]

book of lists

04/06/2014 by alaundre

it smells like really old paper….or it had been in a smoker’s home for decades says me when i opened the package Picked up an old book from my childhood, certainly not children’s reading material, in almost the exact same condition as when I originally read it (I think the original that I read was even more faded than this one, though it might have been a softcover because I remember the corner of the pages being curled or creased). […]

Pacman / Barrelman

07/07/2013 by alaundre

Since I wasn’t able to get the Huck Gee x Freshmanila Puto Barrelman years ago, this Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao Barrelman figure by 5&ADime x Watermoon Studios will have to do :D. What is a barrelman? taken from wiki: A barrel man or barrelman is a souvenir doll or statuette popular in the Philippines. The statuette usually consists of a crude male figurine carved out of wood, partially hidden inside a round wooden barrel. When the barrel is taken off, the […]

i want an army of these

10/08/2012 by alaundre

Was one of the first robot toys i had (or remember having) as a kid. Even managed to find one still in the original packaging. I want to have more than this guy (but just in the color scheme above)

Avarians Rex

06/05/2011 by alaundre

– while most kids had Transformers toys back in the 80’s, I had this instead as my first transforming toy (it was a gift): Rex, from the slightly more obscure transforming toyline Converters (Avarians team/squad). By obscure, I mean that I only remember the name Rex, and google search results for transforming toys usually end up in either Transformers or Gobot universes. So chasing this baby down both on the web and on ebay took awhile. I’m guessing the white […]

micronauts biotron

09/09/2010 by alaundre

. I remember back in 1979? my grand dad asked what I wanted as a gift and remember pointing at a robot toy in a newspaper ad. He came back a year later and gave me this toy. At the time, I was disappointed since this wasn’t the robot that was in the ad. The toy got pretty beat up after a few years (around the mid 80’s) and I think it got thrown or given away. This is from […]

this is where it started

04/06/2010 by alaundre

– my habit of sleeping with headphones on. i spent almost the whole summer in the late 80’s tuned in to music late nights to early am. it was mostly new wave, synth-pop, italo dance back then. i’d eventually get a an upgrade/hand me down a couple years later (though i could’ve sworn remembering this having an fm receiver…maybe i was still using the top one for radio?):
